What's new in bloq 1.0.7 for Mac

New in bloq 1.0.7, out now for Mac: setup no longer opens with a sign-in wall, changing your plan no longer risks paying twice, and the app finally calls itself what everyone else calls it. Three small things, all in the first five minutes of using bloq.

Sign in at the end of setup, not at the door

Until 1.0.7, Sign in with Apple was the first thing bloq showed you. No account, no app - not even a look at it. That is a strange thing to ask of someone who has not yet seen what the app does.

Now the app opens on a splash screen and walks you through setup first: what bloq is, what it blocks, and the macOS permissions it needs. Sign-in has moved to the second-to-last step, just before the finish screen, so by the time bloq asks for an account you already know what you are signing up for. If you are already signed in, the step is skipped entirely.

To be clear about what did not change: an account is still required to finish setup. Sessions, schedules and blocklists sync between your Mac and your iPhone through that account, so bloq needs one to do the thing it exists to do. What changed is the order - you see the app before it asks.

Manage your subscription from Settings

The Pro row in Settings now shows Manage Subscription, which opens the subscription management page directly.

This one is a real fix, not just a shortcut. Previously, an existing subscriber who wanted to switch between monthly and yearly had no obvious route to do it, and going back through checkout does not swap your plan - it starts a second, parallel subscription alongside the first. The management page changes the plan in place, and it is also where you cancel. If you bought through the App Store on iPhone, it takes you to Apple's subscription settings instead.

The app is just called bloq now

The Mac app used to introduce itself as "bloq Mac" - in the Finder, in the menu bar, in the About window. It is now simply bloq, matching the iPhone app and the way anyone actually refers to it.

One quirk worth knowing if you are updating rather than installing fresh: an automatic update keeps the existing file at /Applications/bloq Mac.app, because a running app cannot rename its own file on disk. The Finder will still show it as "bloq", and everything works normally. Fresh downloads install as bloq.app. Your licence, permissions and settings carry over either way - the app's underlying identity did not change, only its name.

How to update

If you already have bloq on your Mac, you do not need to do anything: the app checks for updates on its own and will offer 1.0.7 the next time you open it. To trigger the check by hand, open bloq and choose Check for Updates from the menu. If you would rather install it directly, the download button above always points at the current release.

FAQ

Do I still need an account to use bloq on Mac?

Yes. Sign-in has moved later in setup, not away - it is now the step before the finish screen. The account is what keeps sessions, schedules and blocklists in sync across your Mac and iPhone.

Will updating to 1.0.7 sign me out or reset my blocklists?

No. The app's bundle identity is unchanged, so your account, permissions, settings and blocklists all carry over. The new setup flow only appears for people installing bloq for the first time.

Why is my app still called "bloq Mac" in Finder after updating?

An automatic update cannot rename its own file while it is running, so the file stays at /Applications/bloq Mac.app. The display name is "bloq" and nothing else is affected. A fresh download installs as bloq.app.

How do I switch from monthly to yearly?

Open Settings and use Manage Subscription on the Pro row. Do not go back through checkout - that creates a second subscription instead of replacing the first.
