Understanding and Using Strict Mode
Updated 2 weeks ago
Strict Mode is Bloq's most powerful feature for committing to deep work. It's designed for times when you need to eliminate any possibility of getting distracted. When you enable Strict Mode, you are making a commitment to your focus session.
What Does Strict Mode Do?
Simply put, Strict Mode prevents you from ending a focus session early. When you start a session with this mode turned on:
- You cannot pause the timer.
- You cannot stop the focus session before the timer runs out.
- You cannot edit the active block list to remove apps or websites.
- All your selected distractions will remain blocked until the timer is complete.
When Should I Use It?
Strict Mode is ideal for:
- Important deadlines when you can't afford to procrastinate.
- Building the discipline of focused work.
- Pomodoro sessions where you commit to a full work interval.
- Breaking a bad habit of constantly checking social media or news.
Important: Please use Strict Mode wisely. Since you cannot disable it, make sure you don't need to access any of your blocked apps or sites for the duration of the timer you set.
How to Enable Strict Mode
You can enable Strict Mode right before you start a focus session. On the Focus tab, after you have selected your block list and set your timer, simply toggle the Strict Mode switch before hitting the "Start Session" button. The app will ask you to confirm your choice before the session begins.
